Casting Light

An Exhibition of Porcelain Pendant Lighting by Tobimatsu Toki

May 17 – 26, 2024

Many porcelain hanging pendants of various shapes and sizes on display in a room. Half of them on the left are lit. The other half are not.

Nalata Nalata is pleased to present, Casting Light: An Exhibition of Porcelain Pendant Lighting by Tobimatsu Toki. In a world dominated by artificial light, the subtle beauty of dusk often goes unnoticed. But porcelain artist, Hirotaka Tobimatsu captures its essence through the porcelain pendant lighting he crafts for his brand, Tobimatsu Toki. Using ancient porcelain casting techniques, Tobimatsu’s creations evoke the fading radiance of twilight, paying homage to traditional milk glass lanterns that provide a soft, warm glow. Beyond mere function, his work invites viewers to appreciate the understated charm found in the natural interplay of light and darkness. Join us in celebrating the artistry of Tobimatsu’s hanging pendant light collection in his inaugural North American exhibition and the unveiling of a collaboratively designed light with Nalata Nalata.

An opening reception will be held on Friday, May 17 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Hirotaka Tobimatsu will be attendance.

RSVP to the Opening Reception here.

Exhibition runs from May 17 – 26 (Wednesdays to Sundays).
