Dani Sujin Studio | Celebrating Friendship and Craftsmanship

In the realm of art and craftsmanship, there are rare moments where friendship, passion, and creativity intertwine to create something truly special. Our collaboration with ceramic artist Dani Sujin Lee is one such moment—a heartfelt celebration of talent, friendship and the journey of growth.

Dani, a dear friend and former team member of Nalata Nalata, has blossomed from a talented gallerist to a skilled artist in ceramics. Her journey, marked by an unwavering passion for handcrafts, has been nothing short of inspiring. From her early days with us as an Assistant Gallery Manager to pursuing a Master’s in Ceramics at London’s Royal College of Art, Dani has always exemplified the essence of creativity and dedication.
During her time with us, Dani’s love with ceramics flourished. Balancing her role at the gallery with her personal passion, she would spend her spare moments sculpting vases and vessels—a labor of love that she generously shared with us. One such creation, a pair of mini moon vases, holds a cherished place in our own home, serving as a reminder of Dani’s artistry and symbolizing our relationship as a couple.

Inspired by Dani’s talent and our enduring friendship, we embarked on a collaboration with this concept in mind—a series of hand-built miniature vase groups that embody the essence of human connection in abstract ways. Each vase, whether grouped as a Duo, Trio, Quad, or Quint, interplays with form and colour, weaving a narrative of harmony and togetherness.

As Nalata Nalata approaches its ten-year anniversary, we find it imperative to bridge the gap between revered artisans and emerging talents like Dani. Our collaboration not only pays homage to our longstanding relationship but also paves the way for the future of craft culture, nurturing a new generation of artists and innovators.

Before Dani’s departure to London, we had the privilege of visiting her studio—a space brimming with creativity. Immersed in her process, we witnessed the source of ideas, inspiration, and the meticulous craftsmanship that defines Dani’s work. From selecting specialty glazes to shaping each vessel with care, every step was infused with purpose.

In a candid conversation, Dani shared insights into her creative process. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, she ventured to New York to study Fashion Design at Parsons School of Design. It was during her junior year that ceramics captured her heart—a medium that spoke to her Korean heritage and deep connection to the land. Describing her ceramics style as delicate, natural, and nostalgic, Dani draws inspiration from the silhouettes of pottery from the Joseon Dynasty, infusing her work with personal stories and memories. Her love for crafting vases stems from a reverence for nature and the changing seasons—a ritual that breathes life into her home. Through her work, she seeks to create shared experiences, inviting others to connect with her art on a deeper, emotional level.

As Dani’s story unfolds, we are reminded of the power of relationships and fresh creativity to transcend pre-existing boundaries. We hope you enjoy our collaboration dedicated to the beauty of handmade craftsmanship and meaningful connections.
