Memorial Day at Beacon

Dia-Beacon-Garden

Memorial day weekend is like the unofficial start of summer in NY. It’s when people start leaving the city and heading for their long weekend summer get-aways. This Memorial Day, Steve and I decided to catch the train just an hour and a half upstate to Beacon, home to the Dia Art Foundation and the Riggio Galleries.

This is always a fun trip for us. It’s not too far from the city and you can do it as a day trip. We love checking out the works of some of our beloved contemporary artists like Walter de Maria (Steve’s favourite), Alighiero e Boetti (my favourite), Sol LeWitt, Andy Warhol and Louise Bourgeois.

We had a little extra time before catching our train back to Manhattan so we decided to stroll down the town’s main street where we came across some quaint little shops and street art.

We also discovered an amazing popsicle shop called Zora Dora’s Paleteria. Inspired by Mexican style ice pops, this place makes all their own sorbets and ice creams from scratch.

Indulging on the MT Beacon and the Muddy Hudson Coffee ice pops was a perfect end to the long weekend!
