What’s up with the name?

People often ask us what does Nalata Nalata mean or how we came up with the name. Well, its actually an aggregate of the nicknames of my sisters. Naming the store was a difficult process, with many options deliberated for months. Honorable mentions to ‘Wayfinders’ and ‘Perpetuity’, but it was actually a spark of genius from my brother-in-law Dave that gave the store its namesake. I grew up in a family of four siblings with three very independent sisters – Na Na (Florence), Lang Lang (Vincentia) and Tang Tang (Stephanie). They have always been a large part of my life and even more so when I chose to pursue Industrial Design. Essentially, they are the people in the back of my mind when I design and choose products for the store. I wanted the name of the store to not only represent something important to me, but a lifestyle where we surround ourselves with the people and things that have meaning in our lives. I’d like to think that all the people involved with Nalata Nalata are extensions of my family – from the designers we represent to the staff we work with on a daily basis. As I have said countless times, the best part of any job is often rooted in the people that surround you.
