Ten years ago, we opened our doors on 2 Extra Place with a handful of pieces we loved and the hope that a gallery could also be a space for connection.
Since then, we’ve grown slowly and steadily. Not chasing momentum, just following what felt right and staying close to the people and values that have always grounded us.

This past December, our anniversary slipped by quietly as we welcomed a new daughter to our family. It was a full, meaningful month, and only now, with a little more space to reflect (and sleep!), are we finding the time to take it all in.
The photos here are from those early days during our buildout, before anything felt certain but when the intention was already clear.

We built the space ourselves with the help of friends, family, and too many others to name, though none have been forgotten. The floors, the ceiling, the walls, the fixtures… every part was shaped by a mix of determination, figuring things out as we went, and people who showed up when we needed them. Some came with tools, some with food, some just to lend a hand. Bit by bit, it came together. We hoped it would feel open and grounding, and that people would pick up on something thoughtful in the space, even if they couldn’t quite put their finger on it.

Over time, it’s become more than just a physical space. It’s where we’ve had the chance to host exhibitions and welcome artisans we admire. New York is always moving, but this place has let us slow down just enough for certain things to take hold… conversations, connections, and moments that have stayed with us long after they passed.

Alongside the work of the artisans we’ve been lucky to represent, we’ve also been building a collection of our own designs. Many are pieces Stevenson and I have worked on over the years, inspired by our daily routines and a desire to create things that feel useful and lasting. We’ve also collaborated with incredible craftspeople and designers. These projects have been some of the most rewarding as they were a chance to blend perspectives and make something neither side could have done alone. Moments like these have shaped who we are just as much as anything else.
To mark our tenth year, we’ll be sharing more about these in-house designs here in the Journal… how they started, what we’ve learned along the way, and what they’ve come to mean to us. A few new pieces are on the way too!

Thank you for being part of this chapter. In ten years, what began as a small craft and design gallery has grown into something much larger, built by the people we’ve met, the conversations we’ve had, and the ideas that continue to guide us. We’ve come a long way from our early days on 2 Extra Place, and we’re still learning, still making, and still moved by what this can become.
